لا شك في أن "جان بياجيه" هو مؤسس علم المعرفة الذي هو مدار البحث في هذا الكتاب، ولكنه على حال ليس المؤسس الوحيد لذلك العلم، لقد قدم بحوثاً تناولت تكوين المفاهيم الممتدة من الرياضيات، إلى الفيزياء والبيولوجيا والمنطق ومنها أيضاً الكتب النظرية التي تناولت تحليل المعطيات الاختبارية. لقد اهتم "بياجيه" بدراسة كيفية تكوين المفاهيم عند الأطفال، ذلك أنه وراء كل بالغ كما يقول، قرون من الحضارة والعلم، ومن أجل فهم كيفية تكوين الفكر البشري، مثلما كان يحلم "بياجيه"، كان عليه أن يدرس مراحل تطور الإنسان من ما قبل التاريخ حتى الآن، ولكن هذا مستحيل من الوجهة العلمية. وقد كان لعلم تكوين المعرفة الذي وضعه هذا العالم انعكاس على التربية، وعلم نفس الطفل والتعلم. والمهم في علم تكوين المعرفة، أنه وضع مراحل للنمو الفعلي، وهذه المراحل واحدة في كل المجتمعات، وعند جميع الأفراد. قدمت الباحثة في كتابها هذا علم تكوين المعرفة بكل أشكاله الراهنة، وبأعلامه المشهورين، وبمعطياته الأساسية بالإضافة إلى مساهمتها الخاصة في هذا الميدان وذلك من خلال تجاربها الخاصة في مجال علم المعرفة والغاية إغناء المكتبة العربية، المفتقرة إلى هذا النوع من المؤلفات.
