"وتزودوا فإن خير الزاد التقوى" بهذه الآية الكريمة يبدأ الدكتور أحمد محمد قيس أولى صفحات كتابه "من زاد الطريق" وهو مجموعة مقالات متنوعة، علمية أخلاقية أدبية إجتماعية ودينية.
الغاية الرئيسية بالنسبة للمؤلف هي "التعرّف إلى الله عز وجل وملكوته ، من خلال التعرّف إلى روائع وبدائع خلقه"، ومن هذا المنطلق يبدأ رحلته في الكتاب مع أدق وأصغر الكائنات المادية التي تعيش معنا وبيننا "الجرثومة أو ما يُعرف بعالم الجراثيم والبكتيريا" فيشرح لنا طبيعة عملها ومكنوناتها وعلاقتها بالإنسان، كما يتطرق إلى معرفة ما في هذا الكون من "مجرات وكواكب ومجموعات شمسية تدور حولها". ثم يتحدث في مقال آخر عن "مسألة خلق وعمر آدم بين العقل والعلم الحديث، وعن "خلق وعُمر النوع الإنساني" وعن النظريات العلمية الحديثة، وتحدث أيضاً "العمل شعار المؤمن" حين ورد في القرآن الكريم قوله تعالى "من عمل صالحاً من ذكر أو أنثى وهو مؤمنٌ فلنحيينه حيوةً طيبة".
وفي الكتاب أيضاً، معالجة لكثير من القضايا الدينية والشرعية، مثل "الفائدة في المعنيين الفقهي والإقتصادي، ومن هو المؤمن؟ و "أكثروا من ذكر هادم اللذات"، و "همسات في الطريق إلى مكة" ، و"إيحاءات عاشورائية" ، وعن رأيه في "التطبير بين الدين والعرف" ، و"التوسل والتآخي والعصبية، وعن "الزواج المدني" في العصر الحاضر. ومن أبواب الكتاب كذلك يضم المؤلف قبسات من أقوال الرسول وخطبه وعن الخليفة عمر واقواله، وعن دور العلماء في المجتمع المسلم.
