لما كان الهدف العلمى للبحث هو تعميق فهمنا لبعض جوانب موضوعات الدراسة بما يحقق إثراء العلم بالحقائق, والمعاونة فى إستنباط المبادئ والقوانين العلمية وصياغة الأحكام المختلفة النظرية وإثراء النظريات المتصلة بجوانب الحياة, فإن وضع تطبيقات العلوم فى خدمة المجتمع وأجهزته ومؤسساته المختلفة لهو إتجاه متفق عليه كذلك بين العلماء, وأصبح ضرورياً لتحقيق التقدم وكشف جوانب المشكلات والتبؤ فالبحث العلمى البحت لا ينفصل عن العمل الحقيقى, فكلاهما يساهم فى حل المشكلات الإجتماعية والتحكم فى ظواهر الحياة.
وفيما يتعلق بقواعد البحث العلمى ومناهجه وطرق تصميمه فإن هناك مدارس مختلفة ووجهات نظر متباينة وأراء متعددة كل منها له مذهبه ووجهة نظره, وإن كنا نعتقد أن هذه الإختلافات وتلك الفروق ماهى إلا إختلافات فى الشكل فحسب وليس فى الجوهر فأصوليات البحث العلمى واحدة مهما إختلفت الأشكال, وجوهر البحث العلمى واحد مهما إختلفت المسميات, أى أن هناك حداً أدنى من الأصوليات يجب إتباعها فى مجال البحث العلمى مهما إختلفت المسميات والأشكال, وهو ما سنجاول الإشارة إليه فى صفحات قادمة.
