واليوم، وبعد مرور نصف قرن على المصرع المأساوي والفجيعة الدامية التي حلت بالأسرة المالكة في العراق، غير أن جذوة رهبتها لا زالت في نفوس من عاش ذلك اليوم. وكأن ما حدث في قصر الرحاب يومذاك كان فاتحة لباب العنف الدموي الذي ساد العراق ووجد تربة صالحة فيه.
يقع هذا الكتاب في ثلاثة ابواب، باب ذكر فيه المؤلف الأحداث كما شاهدها، وباب ثانٍ لما جاء ذكره عن المجزرة في مصادر أخرى، وباب ثالث في تهافت الفكر الثوري العسكري، وهو بحث نقدي مزدوج لأخطاء العهد الملكي التي كان يمكن تداركها، وهو أيضاً نقد للعهد الثوري العسكري وأساطيره التي تهافتت على العراق.
