ليس التاريخ سوى صورة الماضي التي تنعكس في الحاضر وتنير طريق المستقبل كما وأنه ليس بمعلومات تسرد سرداً فقط انما تحليل لما يتمخض من حوادث جسام أو انتفاضات كبيرة تترتب عليها نتائج مثيرة في مختلف الميادين.
هذا ما حاول المؤلف ابرازه من خلال الحديث عن سيرة علي باشا جنبلاط خلال مرحلة الانتفاضات التي مرت بها دولة بني عثمان في مطلع القرن السادس عشر. فبعد أن بلغت السلطنة العثمانية من العز والمكانة وسعة الملك وعلو الشأن ما قل ان تبلغه دولة من دول العالم في الحاضر والغابر استبد بها الفساد وثار تنور الخصام في مختلف ارجائها، فسعى كل حاكم ولاية للاستقلال والانفراد في الحكم تخلصاً من الجو والعبودية. من أوائل الثائرين عليها كان علي باشا جنبلاط سليل الدوحة الجنبلاطية وباني أمجادها اثر مقتل عمه وزعيم عائلته حسين باشا على يد أحد الولاة.
دامت ثورة ابن جنبلاط فترة من الزمن تكللت في بادئ الأمر بانتصارات سريعة وحاسمة غير ان فقدان الذخيرة والقوت اليومي أضعف جهته. فعدم توفر الغذاء الكافي لمقاتليه الأشداء فانهزموا بعد ان سطروا ملحمة بطولة هائلة تجلى عنها الوصف، تفرق بعدها آل جنبلاط ايدي سبأ. فالتجأ قسم منهم الى جبل ابن معن حيث وجدوا الراحة والطمأنينة.
