تعد نظرية السياق في الدراسات اللغويّة الحديثة من أكثر النظريّات اللغويّة التصاقاً بعلم الدلالة؛ وذلك لدورها الرئيس في تحديد معنى النصِّ، إذ بها نتمكن من تحليل الأساليب النحويَّة في اللغة العربية على وفق منهج لغوي واضح، وبها أيضاً تتمكن من معرفة الأسباب التي أدَّت إلى إنحِراف بعضها عن ظاهر معناه بشكل مفصل؛ لأنَّ الدرس اللساني القديم وإن كان قد أعطى إهتماماً كبيراً للسياق ودوره في بيان الدلالة في المجال التطبيقي، إلاّ أنه وقف عند حدود الوصف المقتضب في المحال التنظيري فلم يذكر سوى بعض الإشارات والملاحظات التي تصلح أن تكون مقدمات للنظريَّة السَّياقية من دون الخوض في التفاصيل الدقيقة لهذا الإستعمال أو ذاك، ومن دون إعطاء منهج واضح يستطيع الباحث أن يطبقه على نصوص اللغة.
ومن جانب آخر، فإن النظريَّة السيّاقية قد وسعت دائرة دراستها لتشمل اللغة الأدبية واللغة غير الأدبية على إعتبار أن اللِّغة تأخذ شرعيتها من المجتمع الَّذي توجد فيه، وأن إهمال اللُّغة غير الأدبية هو تقصير في حق جزء كبير من اللٌّغة.
وبناءً على هذا فقد أخذت الدراسة أمثلةً ونصوصاً لغوية مختلفة منها ما ينتمي إلى اللَّغة الأدبية ومنها ما لا ينتمي، فأخذت من الكلام العادي والأحاجي الشعبية مثلما أخذت من القرآن الكريم والحديث النبوي الشريف والشعر والأمثال وغيرها، ثم بدأت بتحليل تلك النصوص بالإعتماد على مبادئ النظريَّة السياقية وأصولها.
