إن الشاعر الكبير أدونيس واسمه "علي أحمد سعيد إسبر" ظاهرة متميزة في الشعر العربي بل أحد مهندسي القصيدة الحديثة والذي صنع منها معجزة خارقة وأعجوبة من العجائب التي لم يسبقه إليها أحد.
لم يدرس شاعرنا في مدرسة نظامية بل حفظ القرآن الكريم وتتلمذ على يد أبيه الذي أطلعه على كثير من قصائد القدامى؛ كذلك أصدر مجموعة من المجلات ومارس العمل السياسي ولا نبالغ إذا قلنا أنه الرائد الأول الذي طور الشعر العربي المعاصر من حيث الشكل والمضمون واللغة.
يؤمن أدونيس بالرؤيا الصوفية وتجلياتها، لذا يصعب على من ليس له دراية بها أن يفهم قصائده التي ترتفع إلى حدود الرؤيا الكونية الخالصة، شعره شعر الدهشة والصعوبة والإبهار ويشكل مدرسة خاصة قائمة بذاتها.
عندما سئل شاعرنا الكبير لماذا الشعر؟ أجاب لأشعر أنني موجود وأمارس هذا الوجود، هكذا عبر بإختصار عن نفحاته الشعرية وها نحن نقدم للقارئ نخبة من أجل هذه النفحات بالإضافة إلى نبذة عن حياته وإضاءة لمسيرة الأديب العربي الأكثر إثارة للجدل في الشرق والغرب.
