هذا المعجم من المعاجم المتخصصة في مجال الاقتصاد والتجارة. وهو عامر بمصطلحات هذا الميدان باللغة الإنكليزية ومرادفها باللغة الإنكليزية ومرادفها باللغة العربية. وقد استهدف واضعوا هذا المعجم خدمة القراء والمثقفين والمترجمين المتخصصين الذين لا يهمهم من المصطلح الإنكليزي (أو الأجنبي) إلا مرادفه العربي. حيث قام القيمون عليه باستقصاء شامل لتحقيق مصطلحات هذه العلوم حيث يجد فيه كل هؤلاء وسيلة عملية سريعة تعينهم بالمرادف العربي الأمثل للمصطلح الإنكليزي في المقابل فيما يحتاجونه من هذه المصطلحات في مجالات عملهم أو مطالعاتهم أو تخصصهم.
تميزت فترة الرابع القرن الماضي بظهور المعاجم المتخصصة الثنائية اللغة في شتى الحقول، وكان لمجالات العلوم الاقتصادية والتجارية نصيب وافر في هذا المضمار، فهنالك الآن معاجم متخصصة في الاقتصاد وفي التجارة وفي علوم الإدارة وفي المحاسبة والحاسبات وفي شؤون التأمين وفي الإحصاء وفي الأعمال المصرفية والمالية-كلها عامر بالشروحات والتفاصيل حول مفهوم المصطلح بإحدى لغتي المعجم أو حتى بكلتيهما، وهذه كلها معجمات قيمة لا غنى عنها للمتخصص.
لكن ما كل القراء والمثقفين والمترجمين متخصصين، والكثير منهم لا يهمه من المصطلح الإنكليزي (أو الأجنبي) إلا مرادفه العربي، ونحن نستهدف في هذا المعجم خدمة هؤلاء. لقد قمنا في دائرة المعاجم في مكتبة لبنان باستقصاء شامل لتحقيق مصطلحات هذه العلوم وجمعها في معجم واحد يكون على نسق مثيلاته الشاملة في الإنكليزية والفرنسية، وهكذا كان، وإنا إذ نتقدم هذا المعجم إلى المثقف العربي طالباً أو قارئاً أو مترجماً نأمل أن يجد فيه كل هؤلاء وسيلة عملية سريعة وسهلة تعينهم بالمرادف العربي الأمثل للمصطلح الإنكليزي المقابل فما يعن لهم من هذه المصطلحات في مجالات عملهم أو مطالعاتهم أو تخصصهم.
