تطمح دراسات هذا الكتاب على المستوى النظري والتطبيقي معاً أن تلامس بعض مشكلات السيرة الذاتية في أدبنا العربي والنادرة في الكتابة النوعية، والملتبسة في مصادرها وطرق عرضها سردياً أو تاريخياً، والمحفوفة بمحاذير ومحددات وموانع ستعرض لبعضها دراسات الكتاب.
ولإستكمال الجوانب الممكنة في السيرة الذاتية كنوع كتابي تابعت الدراسات ما يمكن أن يظهر قريباً من الكتابة السير - ذاتية أو مختلطاً بها كاليوميات والمذكرات والرسائل، وكذلك ما يتصل بها في بعض نصوص الرحلة والسفر، وتثير الدراسات أسئلة يرى الكاتب أنها تتصل بشعرية النوع السير - ذاتي كصلتها بالرواية وإمكان وجود رواية سيرة أو سيرة روائية، وإمكان وجود سيرة ذاتية شعرية، ومدى التوسع الممكن للمدونة السيرية عبر كيفيات ممكنة كالرسالة واليوميات ونصوص المدن وأدب الرحلة، وجوانب أخرى تتصل بأسلوبيتها كترددها بين التاريخ والوصف والسرد، وإنفتاحها على أنواع أخرى، وما تعانيه من فهم قاصر يخلطها بالجوانب الأخلاقية كالصدق والتوثيق، ويحصرها في البوح المطابق للشخصية فحسب، ذلك أن السيرة الذاتية في ظني ليست جرد حساب مع الذات رغم قيامها على المطابقة بين النص والذات، بقدر توليد نص يجمع في زمن حاضر ما دار في الماضي أو جرت فيه الأحداث، ولكن من زاوية الشخصية رؤيتها لماضيها.
