يتناول الدكتور الرشيد بو شعير في هذا الكتاب (الشعر العربي الحديث في منطقة الخليج) مؤرخاً ومثمناً ومحللاً للعوامل المؤثرة في تشكيل التيارات الكبرى لهذا الشعر، ومثيراً لكثير من الأسئلة المرتبطة بخصوصية هذا الشعر وأصالته وظواهره وقضاياه اللاَّفتة للنظر.
وقد جسد المؤلف مظاهر المشهد الشعري الحديث في منطقة الخليج العربي من خلال النصوص والأعلام والمذاهب حريصاً على رصد ملامح جميع الإتجاهات والتجارب الشعرية في سائر الأقطار الخليجية، بدءاً من إتجاهات الشعراء الإحيائيين الأتباعيين المحافظين والمجدِّدين في تجارب الشعراء الحداثيين المعاصرين، مروراً بإتجاهات الرومانسيين والواقعيين.
وبذلك يكون مؤلف هذا الكتاب قد أسهم في وضع الشعر العربي الحديث في منطقة الخليج، ضمن مشهد الشعر العربي العام في العصر الحديث، وهو الأمر الذي يتجاهل أهميته جل الدارسين المؤرخين للحركة الشعرية الحديثة في الوطن العربي، فضلاً عن كونه قد أعاد النظر في كثير من الطروحات التي تتعلق بتقييم هذا الشعر وتاريخه.
