حين وضعت أمام مهمة اختيار مجموعة من أشعار الراحل مصطفى عبد الله لتطبع في كتاب شعرت بشيء من التردد في داخلي. فالمهمة صعبة من وجوه عديدة، أولها، إنني لا أريد أن أظلم الشاعر، فكل اختيار هو تعبير عن ذوق محدد وثقافة معينة وموقف متميز من الأدب عامة والشعر خاصة. ويزداد الأمر حراجة أن الشاعر لم تطبع له مجاميع شعرية سابقاً، ولم يأخذ حقه من النشر كاملاً، ولم يطلع جمهور القراء الواسع على فنه.
غير أن ما جعلني أخاطر فأمضي في طريقي متجاوزاً العقبات أن الاختيار مهما كان غير وافٍ، أو بكلمة أخرى، غير معبر تعبيراً كاملاً عن هوية الشاعر وفنه، فإنه معبر تعبيراً كاملاً عن هوية الشاعر وفنه، ف‘نه يبقى جزءاً من نتاج الشاعر لا يمكن نكرانه، والمعرفة بهذا الجزء أفضل من السكوت عليه.
