إن التحدي العام الذي يواجهه الشاعر في أى عصر هو أن يتعامل مع اللغة التي استخدمها قبله مئات الشعراء؛ فالمفردات هي المفردات، والنظام النحوي هو النظام النحوي نفسه، وشوقي شاعر متميز من شعراء العربية؛ يشهد له الجميع بالسبق والتفرد، لكنه لم يأت - وليس مطالباً أن يأتي - بمفردات جديدة، ولم يصنع - وليس مطالباً أن يصنع- نظاماً جديداً خاصاً به وحده؛ وإلا انقطع الاتصال بينه وبين متلقيه، والمعروف أن شعر شوقي لم يحظ بدراسات نحوية كافية، تقربنا من معرفة طبيعة وخواص البنية ووظائفها اللغوية؛ عند شاعر له هذه المكانة المرموقة التي نالها، وعظمة شعره التي بلغت الآفاق، وشغلت الأدباء والنقاد؛ في حين حظي بالكثير من الدراسات الأدبية والنقدية, ويقوم هذا البحث على دراسة بناء الجملة فى شعر أمير الشعراء الغنائي المقدم للصغار والكبار وشعره المسرحي؛ دراسة نحوية تهدف إلى تصنيف الجملة إلى أنماطها المختلفة وفقاً لنوعها وطبيعتها وأجزائها وما يطرأ عليها من تغييرات، ثم شرح طريقة بنائها وإيضاح العلاقات بين عناصر هذا البناء، وتحديد الوظيفة التي يشغلها كل عنصر من عناصرها، والعلاقات اللغوية الخاصة بكل وظيفة منها، ثم تعيين النموذج التركيي الذي ينتمى إليه كل نوع من أنواع الجمل، وذلك بإستخراج المادة اللغوية من واقع النصوص الشعرية موضوع الدراسة ومقارنتها بآراء النحاة؛ لمعرفة مدى الالتقاء بين ما قرره النحاة من قواعد وأحكام وبين الواقع النحوي لما أنشده شوقى من أشعار.
