وتضم السيرة أكثر من مئتي خبر روي عن عمر بن عبد العزيز، وتهتم الدراسة بالتركيز على المادة اللغوية للأخبار التي نقلها المؤلف عن الرواة.
وترجع أهمية موضوع الكتاب إلى أنه أول دراسة نحوية تتناول هذا النص النثري لمعرفة مدى الالتقاء بين ما قرره النحاة من قواعد وأحكام، وبين الواقع النحوي لما روي من أخبار فيه؛ بهدف وضع أحكام النحاة في مواضعها، والوصول إلى قواعد أكثر ملاءمة لواقع اللغة قدر الإمكان.
