منذ نكبتهم في عام 1948، تشتّت الفلسطينيون في دول العالم. في دولة فلسطين، يعيش نحو 5 ملايين فلسطيني، مثلوا نحو 38 في المئة من إجمالي عدد الفلسطينيين في العالم في عام 2017. وفي الأردن حيث الشتات الفلسطيني الأكبر في العالم، يزيد عددهم على 4 ملايين فلسطيني. ويمتد شتاتهم إلى الجزر الصغيرة في الكاريبي، حيث لا يتجاوز عددهم بضعة آلاف. أنشأ الفلسطينيون حيث استقروا مجتمعهم الخاص، متفاعلين مع المجتمعات الأخرى. إن التفاعلات بين المجتمعات السكانية المختلفة تؤثر في عدم استقرار الوضع الديموغرافي، في ضوء استمرار الحركات السكانية التي تحكمها الظروف السياسية والاقتصادية التي يعيشها الفلسطينيون في دولة فلسطين والفلسطينيون في إسرائيل وفي أماكن اللجوء والشتات المختلفة. يتناول هذا الكتاب الجوانب الديموغرافية للفلسطينيين في العالم، التي تتأثر بالعوامل الجيوسياسية والاقتصادية. إن التحليل الديموغرافي في الكتاب هو القياس الموضوعي للحقائق الديموغرافية المتعلقة بماضي الفلسطينيين وحاضرهم، كما يوفر مسارات علمية للتنبؤ بمستقبلهم الديموغرافي؛ محاولًا التعرف إلى تيارات الهجرة التي شكلت مجتمعات فلسطينية في المهاجر، وساعيًا بقدر توافر المعطيات الضرورية إلى تقديم إسقاطات ديموغرافية لعدد الفلسطينيين في العالم بحلول عام 2050، من دون إغفال دراسة السمات الخاصة بالمجتمع الفلسطيني في كل بلد من بلدان العالم.
