يحتوي المرصاد على العديد من الموضوعات، فهو مرصع بالكثير من الآيات القرآنية الشريفة التي تأتي حسب مذاق الصوفية وأذواقهم، مما يعطينا مفهومًا خاصًا عن أهمية هذا الكتاب من ناحية التفسير لآيات القرآن الكريم وخاصة أن المؤلف كاتب للتفسير القرآني في كتابه: "بحر الحقائق والمعاني في التفسير القرآني" حيث استشهد المؤلف في كتابه بقدر كبير من الأحاديث النبوية سواء في افتتاحيات الفصول أو في ثنايا النص؛ والكتاب مليء بالأحاديث التي يبلغ قدرها حوالى المائتين والتسعين حديثًا، غير الأحاديث المتكررة.
كما يمتاز المرصاد بكثرة المصطلحات والتعبيرات الصوفية التي يتجلى بها الكتاب ويحتوي أيضًا على الحديث عن العديد من العارفين والشيوخ السابقين والمعاصرين للمؤلف وأحوالهم وأفكارهم التي استفاد ببعضها في الكثير من موضوعات كتاباته، ولا ننسى الأشعار الفارسية الجميلة التي يزخر بها المرصاد ومنها جزء كبير لنفس الشاعر داية والباقي لشعراء مشهورين.
يقدم لنا الكتاب المعارف القيمة عن وضع وسلوك الطبقات المختلفة للشعب وآدابه ورسومه في ذلك العصر، حيث يتناول الاضطراب العام من سيل المغول وهجومهم المروع على الشعوب الآمنة. وكذلك يتحدث الكاتب عن فساد الناس وأجهزة الحكومة والخدمة والبرطلة والرشاوى وأثرها في أخلاق وشعوب مجتمعات ذلك العصر، هذا وكما يبين الكاتب كذلك رأيه في سلوك علماء الفتوى وطبقات الفقهاء والقضاة وشرح أحوالهم، كما يشرح أحوال وسلوك وأرباب النعم وأصحاب الأموال، والرؤساء والدهاقين والزراع، وغيرهم من أهل التجارة وأصحاب الحرف والصناعات. علاوة على رسم الصوفية ونظامهم وعلاقة المريد بالمراد، كما يتحدث عن بيان الاحتياج للذكر ونظامه وشروطه، ثم يبين لنا الخلوة وشروطها وآدابها، ويتحدث كذلك عن السماع وأحواله وآدابه وعرس الصوفية عند وفاة عزيز لديهم.
