شهد الطب الحديث تطوراً هائلاً في علاج العقم ومساعدة الذين لا يتسنى لهم الإنجاب بصورة طبيعية، وقد استحدثت خلال العقود الأخيرة طرقٌ وأساليب متنوعة فتحت آفاقاً واسعة أمام الأزواج المحرومين من الأطفال، وأتاحت للكثيرين منهم فرصة الإنجاب باتباع الوسائل الصناعية. ومع حصول هذه التطورات برزت أسئلة فقهية مختلفة حول موقف الشريعة الإسلامية المقدسة من استخدام هذه الوسائل، سواء فيما يتعلق بأصل دورها في تحقق العمل والإنجاب، أو فيما له صلة بطرق تنفيذها وإجرائها، أو فيما يترتب على الإنجاب بواسطتها من أحكام وآثار تخص الزوجين أو أطرفاً أخرى.
والدراسة التي بين يدي القارئ محاولة للإجابة على هذه التساؤلات من فقه أتباع أئمة أهل البيت عليهم الصلاة والسلام، وذلك من خلال ثلاثة فصول تحدث أولها عن مشروعية الإنجاب بالوسائل الصناعية، وتناول ثانيها الكلام حول ما يقترن باستخدام هذه الوسائل من أمورٍ محرمة في حدّ ذاتها والعناوين الثانوية المرخصة في ارتكابها، وهنا تمّ التحدث عن التكشف أمام الطبيب أو الطبيبة، النظر إلى المواضع المحرمة من بدن المراجع أو المراجعة، لمس المواضع المحرّمة من بدن المراجع أو المراجعة، الاستنماء، إتلاف البويضات المخصبة الفائضة على الحاجة، زرع الأعضاء التناسلية ونحوها كالمني والبويضة، استئجار المرأة للحمل.
أما الفصل الثالث فخصص لبيان الأحكام التي تترتب على استخدام تلك الوسائل والآثار المعني بها هذا البحث تدور حول عدة موضوعات هي: العدّة، نفقة الحامل، الانتساب، التبنّي، الإرث والرضاع والنكاح، الإجهاض.
إلى جانب هذا يحتوي هذا الكتاب على مجموعة ملاحق حملت العناوين التالية: في حكم المطلقة الرجعية قبل انقضاء عدتها، في انقطاع العلقة الزوجية وعدمه بوفاة أحد الزوجين، في قاعدة الفراش، حول تفسير علي بن إبراهيم القمي، حول كتاب الجعفريات (الاشعثيات)، حول مسائل علي بن جعفر، حول رجال ابن الغضائري، حول كتاب اختيار الرجال، في حال علي بن سالم الكوفي، في حال المعلى بن خنيس، في حال مسعدة بن صدقة، في حال الحسين بن يزيد النوفلي.
