بنو هاشم بنو عـمومة رسول الله ﷺ، هم الذين صدّقوه وآزَروه، وتضوّروا معه جوعاً في شِعبِ أبي طالبٍ، وأحاطوا به ﷺ يوم حُنين يفدُونه بأرواحهِم رضي الله عنهم وأرضاهم، وفي فروع وأغصان هذه الشجرة الطيبة التي استقرّ فيها نور النبوة وتوارثهُ أجدادُها كابراً عن كابر يبحثُ هذا الكتاب؛ حيث كان يجد المؤلف بين الفَينة والأُخرى ـ من خلال قراءاته في السيرة النبوية والأنساب القُرشيّة ـ أعلاماً من بني عمّ المصطفى ﷺ مجاهيلَ أو شِبه مجاهيلٍ. فعمد إلى استخراج ما ذُكروا به في بطون كتب التراث، مقدِّماً من المصادر ما كان محلّ الثقة والصحة عند أهل البحث والتحقيق كالصحيحين، مع تَوشية هذا البحث بشيء من الشعر الذي يـخدم الغرض، وتفسير بعض ما غمض فيه؛ مما يُظنُّ أنه يحسُن إيراده، وتطربُ النفس لقراءته، ثم خُتم هذا العمل بجملة من الفهارس المفتاحية الميسّرة للوصول إلى مفردات مادته.
