تناول أبو زيد بيومى بالدراسة الظروق التى أدت إلى التداخل بين الشعر والقصة، وتحول هذا التداخل من التلقائية إلى التعمد والقصد، هذا القصد الذى بنى عليه الهدف من هذا التداخل وهو استكمال العربى لمتعة سماع القصة بدخول الشعر فيه، وهو الهدف الرئيسى عند المؤلف، والذى انبنى عليه هدف آخر مصاحب لذلك الهدف وهو إسهام هذه الرغبة السماعية فى حفظ الشعر عن طريق ما يمكن تسميته بـ "الذاكرة القصصية" وهى ذاكرة خاصة بالثقافات الشفاهية. والتى تنتمى إليها الأمة العربية خاصة فى عصر الجاهلية، وعصر صدر الإسلام.
