باختين هو المفكّر والمنظّر الروسي العملاق، صاحب المكانة الفريدة في الفكر الإنساني المعاصر. إننا نجد في كتابات باختين الأساسية العديد من الأفكار والمفاهيم التي تأسست عليها المدارس البنيوية وما بعد البنيوية والتفكيكية. إن انقسام الذات وتبددها وانتشارها في اللغة، هي إنتاج باختيني، وله السبق في الحديث عن وجوب الاهتمام بالمتكلم والشروط التي ينتج فيها المدلول.
هناك أفكار كبيرة ضمن أعمال باختين، وهي أفكار اعتمد عليها علماء اللغة والعلوم الإنسانية والاجتماعية وكذلك النقّاد. إنه يكتب بعمق نادر، ويحمّل أفكاره زخماً جديداً، ويقتحم مناطق لم ينتبه أحد إلى وجودها. إنه يحاكي الأشياء ويقيم معها حواراً فاعلاً، فيصل إلى نتيجة مبهرة بسبب هذا الحوار.
يوجد في العلم الروسي مصطلح باسم باختين (باختينولوجيا)، وتقام مؤتمرات علمية في مختلف ميادين الحضارة والثقافة عن باختين وأفكاره، منها: المؤتمر الذي يجري كل سنة في مدينة سارانسك - المدينة التي أمضى فيها سنواته الأخيرة.
