لقد توالت عناية الخلف بآثار السلف، فجدّدوا في إبرازها للناس، وكان من نصيب بعضها أن غفل عنها، ليس إغفالاً لها، وإنما لعدم وقوف الناس عليها. وقد نالت مصنفات "أبي عروبة الحراني" نصيباً وافراً من هذا الإهمال، لذا فقد عمد المحقق، في هذا الكتاب إلى إخراج مصنف الحراني هذا حيث حرص على إبراز هذا الجزء الذي بين أيدينا، لأنه من رواية إمام مشهور وهو "أبو أحمد الحاكم" عنه. وقد قام المحقق بالتعريف بالمصنف، وما يتعلق به من ذكر أقوال النقاد فيه، وشيوخه، وتلامذته، وذكر مصنفاته، ووفاته. ومن ثم تحدث عن هذا الجزء الذي يحققه من حيث وصفه وإسناده وإثبات صحة نسبته للمصنف ثم قام بتخريج الأحاديث من الصحيحين والاكتفاء بهما بعد الحكم على الحديث بما يتعلق مع قواعد المُحدثين.
