اعلم علمني الله وإياك، أن آثار النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم لم تكن في عصر أصحابه وكبار تبعهم مدونة في الجوامع ولا مرتبة، لأمرين: أحدهما: إنهم كانوا في إبتداء الحال، قد نهوا عن ذلك كما ثبت في "صحيح المسلم"، خشية أن يختلط بعض ذلك بالقرآن العظيم.
وثانيهما: لسعة حفظهم وسيلان أذهانهم ولأن أكثرهم كانوا لا يعرفون الكتابة.
ثم إنه في عصر تابعي التابعين صنفت التصانيف، وجمع طائفة من أهل العلم كلام النبي صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم، وبعضهم جمع كلام الصحابة . اهـ.
وأول من دون الحديث [التدوين الشامل] ابن شهاب الزهري على رأس المائة بأمر عمر بن عبد العزيز، ثم كثر التدوين، ثم التصنيف، وحصل بذلك خير كثير، فلله الحمد.
وقد تنوعت مقاصد المحدثين في طريقة تدوين السنة النبوية وتصنيفها: فمنهم من صنفها على الأبواب، ومنهم من صنفها على المسانيد، ومنهم صنفها على العلل، ومن أبرز مقاصد المحدثين في هذا الموضوع تجريد (الحديث الصحيح) وإفراده بالجمع والتصنيف.
وقد تعددت المصنفات في جمع الأحاديث الصحيحة وتنوعت واختلف المصنفون في هذا الموضوع في شروطهم، وتفاوتت مراتب الأحاديث عندهم.
ومن أبرز كتب الصحاح كتاب "السُّنَنُ" المسمى بــ "السُنَنَ الصِّحَاحَ المأثُوَرِة" للحافظ ابن السكن (ت 353هـ).
وهذا الكتاب يكثر وروده في كتب التخريج والمشيخات والشروح الحديثية، ومع هذا فإن المعلومات عنه عزيزة ونادرة.
