لم تبال جدتي بهان استدارت قليلاً نحو المرأة التي تزورنا وهى تقول: قلت لها يا بنتي البني آدم ده مش لنا! أقبلي سوسو ابن خالتك ولا مكرم جارنا اللي في أول الشارع، ومفيش فايده!! راسها ناشفة زي أبوها. كان فيه إيه اللي اسمه محمود ده! والله ما كان يدخل في ذمتي بمليم.
ردت المرأة وبادرة غضب تفوح من كلامها:
الله يرحمه بقى يانينة، دا شهيد ومقامه كبير عند ربنا.
شهيد!!
أجابتها أمي بغضب:
أيوة شهيد!! مش كان رايح يدافع عن بلده، يبقى شهيد.
أنا لا بتكلم دلوقتى عن الحرب ولا الشهادة، كان فيه إيه ياعين أمك علشان تتجوزيه؟! دا لا كان مننا ولا من دينا!!
يبدو أن جدتي شعرت بأنها أوقعت الضيفة في حرج، فتداركت:
أستغفر الله العظيم الله. هو أنا قلت إيه! مش قصدي مش قصدي والله! أنا قصدي إن الجوازة الخايبة دي مكنتش لنا.
وساد الصمت إلى أن قالت المضيفة:
معلش يا تانت، ما انتي حضرتك عارفه قد إيه كانت كاميليا بتحبه ومتعلقة بيه.
بتحبه! وجالنا إيه من الحب، آهو ضيع البنت معاه.
نصيب يا تانت، نصيب.
انحنت، جدتي برأسها وهي تقلب كفها وتغمغم:
نصيب، نصيب إيه! أقولها ضيع البنت، تقولي نصيب! أقولها مش عارفة إيه، تقولي شهيد!
زفرت أمي.
ماما! وبعدين.
