طالما جلسنا أنا وهي نحلم بقابل الأيام..
أين ترى سوف تكون عيادتي عندما أصبح طبيباً! والمسكن الذي يضمنا بعد الزواج! أقول: في مدينة نصر، وتقول هي: في المهندسين، ثم نعود ونقول: لماذا لا نبقى في الظاهر، هناك عمارة بالقرب من مدرسة (الفرير) لا تزال تحت الإنشاء، أصحابها كسالى ويبنون الدور في عام، فقد نلحق بها ونحصل على شقتين واحدة للعيادة والثانية للمقام.
ولم تقبل أمي بهذا.
فقد كانت تود الرحيل إلى أهلها بباريس، في أقرب وقت وبأي طريق. ليس وحدها، بل وكانت تخطط لأن تأخذني معها لا لأقضي أشهر الصيف ثم أعود كما كانت تقول، بل لأمكث معها هناك ولا أعود.
وأنا أماطل..
غير أن الريح قد تأتي أحياناً بما لا تشتهيه السفن، فقد عرفت أم نادية بالذي يحدث في الخفاء، واستكثرت علينا ذلك.
استكثرت علي أنا بالذات!
فكيف لمخلوق مثلي أمه يهودية أن تتزوج من ابنتها! ابنتها المسلمة أماً وأباً، جدة وجداً، تتزوج ولداً أخواله يهود! ولكي تستأصل هذا الأمر من الجذور تركت لنا العمارة كلها، أخذت نادية في يدها وذهبت دون أن تطلع أحداً بمستقرها الجديد!
وكذلك أمي، أخذتني هي الأخرى إلى باريس.
