يعد هذا الكتاب من أوسع كتب التعبير والرؤيا حيث أن مؤلفه من متأخري المعبرين وقد جمع فيه كثير ما كتب من سبقوه وجعلها في هذا الكتاب وأضاف إليها مما وصل إلى علمه، كما أنه وسع في أبوابه وفصوله وموضوعاته حيث ذكر موضوعات لم يتطرق إليها كثير منهم حيث لم تكن قد ظهرت في عصورهم كالكهرباء والمغناطيس، وما إلى ذلك من العلوم العصرية الحديثة، وقد وضع المؤلف لكتابه مقدمة وضّح فيها سبب وضعه هذا السفر الجامع ومنهجه ومصدر جمعه لمعلوماته، وقد ذكر ما يزيد على عشرين كتاباً في هذا الفن، وقد ذكر فيه نبذة عن علم التعبير وضح فيها ما يجب أن يكون عليه المعبر وما يجب أن يجعله في اعتباره عند قصّ الرائي للرؤيا عليه من ألفاظه والوقت الذي كانت فيه الرؤيا والمعرفة بأيام الأسبوع السبعة وفصول السنة الأربعة وأنواع المزروعات في تلك الفصول وأحوال الشمس والقمر والكواكب وما إلى ذلك.
وحال صاحب الرؤيا من حيث الصلاح والفساد والذكورة والأنوثة والفقر والغنى والعلم والجهل وما إلى ذلك من الاعتبارات. وقد قسم كتابه هذا إلى ثمانين باباً وجعل لتلك الأبواب فهرست في أول الكتاب يبين مضمون كل باب ليسهل رجوع الناظر فيه إلى طلبته ثم ذكر بآخر الكتاب نوادر وفوائد. أما النوادر فذكر فيها عدداً من الرؤيا التي قصت على المعبرين فعبروها فجاءت كما عبروها تماماً، وأما الفوائد فذكر فيها نصائح للمعبرين في كيفية التعبير وللمسلمين فيما يجب عليهم عندما يأخذوا مضاجعهم من طهارة وذكر وما إلى ذلك.
