إن الطبقة الوسطى هي الطبقة التي تحرك أي مجتمع.. والتي تصنع بتطلعاتها مستقبل وحقيقة أوطانها، ولكن السؤال الذي يفرض نفسه وتدور حوله العديد من الأسئلة الأخرى (هل توجد طبقة وسطى في مصر؟!). والحقيقة المؤسفة التي يلمسها معظم المصريين هي أن أغلب الأثرياء الجدد في مصر أثروا بلا جهد وبلا إنتاج وبلا تفاعل مع الآخرين.. طفيليون أثروا بالفهلوة وهو المصطلح الذي ذاع وانتشر في تلك الفترة، وفرضوا على المجتمع نمطًا ثقافيًا للحياة رديئًا تافهًا يتناسب وهذا الثراء الطفيلي.. فتمزق المجتمع المصري حتى فقد (التداخل بين طبقاته).. فصارت دوائر مغلقة منفصلة.. جزر من الجماعات البشرية.. جماعة طفيلية قليلة العدد.. وجماعة ما زالت تسمى الطبقة الوسطى صارت منهكة تحت وطأة أحلام لا تتحقق فانكمشت وفقدت ديناميتها التي تتحدث عنها الكتب.. وجماعة أكثر عددًا تمثل الغارقين في قاع المجتمع.. كما كنا نقرأ في علوم الاجتماع أن الطبقة الوسطى هي منشط عملية التطور في الظروف الطبيعية، أما الظروف غير الطبيعية أي عندما (تستفحل) الفروق بين الفقراء والأغنياء فإن البديل هو (الثورة)، حتى في وقتنا هذا تاهت الثورة بين كل من الطبقة الوسطى والجياع اللاهثيين الباحثيين عن الخبز. فماذا يحمل المستقبل لعلاج هذا الحال المفرط في الخلل؟ ماذا بعد أن يجوع الجميع؟
