هذا الكتاب يحاول أن يؤصل العلوم والتقنيات المعاصرة بالرجوع إلى جذورها في المجتمع الإسلامي الذي كان شاهدًا على ميلادها، وأمينا على رعايتها واحتضانها، حتى نمت وازدهرت وأصبحت بعد ذلك أغصانا وفروعًا في شجرة المعرفة، وروافد لا غنى عنها لتغذية الحضارة الإنسانية، إن في تراث المسلمين علومًا وتقنيات لم يولها الباحثون اهتمامًا كافيًا، إما لندرة مصادرها، أو لتفرق موضوعاتها في مراجع تراثية شتى يتعذر الحصول على أغلبها، أو لصعوبة مصطلحاتها التي تبدو لغير المختصصين غريبة عما هو شائع في لغة العلوم المعاصرة، أو لغياب المنهجية السليمة في التعامل مع التراث بصورة عامة، أو لكل هذه الأساليب مجتمعة، وربما لأسباب أخرى غيرها، والكتاب الذي بين أيدينا يلقي الضوء على بعض هذه العلوم والتقنيات المنسية، عسى أن تجد من بين أهل الاختصاص من يتناولها بمزيد من التحليل والدراسة العلمية المتأنية.
