هذا الكتاب محاولة، تؤمل أن تقرّبنا من المحاجّة الجماليّة والفلسفيّة والأخلاقية الطويلة التي خاضها الشاعر مع الحياة وتناقضاتها، واللغة ورموزها، والنضال وسقطاته، والأعداء والأصدقاء، وأخيراً مع عدوّه اللدود (الموت) الذي، وإن كان قد سلبه هشاشة الجسد، فإنه لم يقوَ على أن يسلبه عبقرية الروح وجمالها الخالد! تلك العبقرية التي حفرها في الكتابة، بوصفها مغامرة الذات في البحث عن ذاتها، مثلما هي مغامرة اللغة في البحث عن كينونتها! أقول مغامرة الذات، وأنا أعي أن ذات درويش التي تموضعت، أو سكنت موضوعاً مهمّاً هو البحث عن مصير حرٍّ على هذه الأرض، وفضاءات جمالية في اللغة، هي ذات متعالية؛ بمعنى أنّها أدركت أو وعت موتها الخاص.
