إن المتأمل لكتاب "لا عشبة عند ماهوتا" سيجده نص سير ذاتي يقع داخل نطاق التجربة الشخصية للكاتب "بإسم فرات"، يتضمنه سرد لغوي آسر، يباين الحياتي المعيش ويستجيب لآليات التشكيل بين "أدب السيرة" و"أدب الرحلات"، وجزئية الفهم والتفسير، ومحاولة الوصول إلى المعنى.
يقول المؤلف: وهذا الكتاب جمعت فيه الواقع المهيمن على أدب السيرة والتحرر النسبي لأدب الرحلات من الواقع، كنتُ شاعراً يروي سيرته، ولكني في الأحوال جميعها كنتُ قارئاً يُدوِّن جزءاً مهماً من حياته؛ تطوره الثقافي، نمو لغته الإنجليزية التي كانت أحد أسباب إخفاقه الدراسيّ، مشاركاته في الوسط الأدبي النيوز لندي، وتأمله بمحبّة أحوال مجتمعه العراقي والجاليات الأخرى في هذا المنفى الجميل النائي..."
وفي هذا الإطار يوضح المؤلف أمرين، أولهما، أنه شاعر لا يستطيع التخلص من شغفه بالشعر، ويتضح ذلك عبر "فقرات وجمل وأسطر"، تبدو فيها شعرية المؤلف واضحة، وثانيهما أن تطوره الفكري والثقافي لا بدّ له أن ينعكس على تجربة الكتابة في هذا المجال.
وفي هذا نيوه المؤلف إلى رحلة بحثه عن كتب أثناء تواجده في آوَناروا، وكانت حصيلتها العديد من الكتب عن العراق، وخاصة أنها تخص أقليات أو مناطق هامشية، وهو ما ساعده كثيراً لمعرفة تاريخ تنوع بلاده، وفهم آليات الخطاب عند الأقليات، كما عزز هذا إنغماسه أو إندماجه بالمجتمع النيوز لندي.
يذكر أن هذا الكتاب يأتي من ضمن سلسلة "يوميات عربية" وهي سلسلة جديدة في أدب اليوميات يتحدث فيها نخبة من الكاتبات والكتّاب المهاجرين عن أوطانهم، والمنفيين بفعل الإستبداد والقمع والحروب وضياع الحريات.
