يتضمن كتاب "أسس اللينينية" التعريف المعلوم عن اللينينة والذي اكتسب، اعتراف الجميع، وهو ينص: "اللينينية هي ماركسية عصر الإستعمال والثورة البرولتيارية. وبتعبير أدق: اللينينية هي نظرية وتاكتيك الثورة البروليتارية بوجه عام، نظرية وتاكتيك دكتاتورية البروليناريا بوجه خاص".
يتتبع هذا الكتاب الجذور التاريخية اللينينية التي ترعرعت وتكونت في ظروف الإستعمار، أي المرحلة التي تم فيها تهيئة الطبقة العاملة للثورة، إلى غايتها، فتحولت إلى مرحلة جديدة، هي مرحلة الهجوم المباشر على الرأسمالية.
يضم الكتاب محاضرات القيت في جامعة سفردلوف بموسكو (أوائل نيسان 1924) كتبها "يوسف ستالين" موجهاً إياها إلى فوج لينين" فيها بيان مفهوم لينين عن العالم وأسس اللينينية، بوصفها حادق أممي، له جذور في مجموع التطور الأممي، وليس حادثاً روسياً فقط.
محتويات الكتاب: ينقسم هذا الكتاب إلى قسمين: الأول بعنوان "أسس اللينينية" ويضم: دكتاتورية البروليتارية، مسألة الفلاحين، المسألة الوطنية، الحزب، الأسلوب في العمل ... الخ، أما القسم الثاني فجاء بعنوان "حول مسائل اللينينية" ويضم: مسألة الثورة الدائمة، الثورة البروليتارية ودكتاتورية البروليتارية، الحزب والطبقة العاملة في نظام دكتاتورية البروليتارية، مسألة إنتصار الإشتراكية في بلاد واحدة ... الخ.
