هذا العمل، وإن كان في جزء منه قدّم إلى طلبة الجامعة، ثمّ وُسع إلى ما هو عليه الآن، لا يزيد على مساءلة ما أُنجِز في الأدب المقارن، شرقا وغربا، كونيا وعربيا ,نقف عند حدّ المساءلة، تجاوزًا للادِّعاء الذي يجُرُّ بعضَ أصحابه إلى الانتفاخ بالقول الفصل الذي لا يتاح في العلم لأحد؛ وإحياءً لهِمَمٍ لم يسعفها الجهد في العثور على تقريبات إجماعية تؤدي إلى مسلّمات، وإلى مبادئ ـــــ كما هي إحدى غايات الأدب المقارن ـــــ فاعلة في التقريب بين الإنسان وعديله. لا شك في أن مسألة الإضافة تطرح نفسها مع كل جديد، هذا الذي قد يدفع كلَّ ناظر في هذا الكتاب إلى أن ينتظر غيرَ مجترّ، أو يتشوف إلى غير مُعاد. الحق أن متابعة الجديد كانت على وتيرة تسمح بها اقترحات الدرس المقارن نفسه، وتحمل عليها تطوّراتُه التي أمكن الوقوف عليها في المظانّ المتاحة. لا زالت المدارس المتناطحة على مواقعها التي عهدناها منذ أوائل الاطلاع عليها، رغم أن العالم في تحولاته السريعة،والعميقة في كثير منها، لم تسمح رؤاه المغسولة بأمطار العولمة أن تجدد الشيء الكثير من بناها الداخلية .
