لا يمكنه الآن إلقاء اللوم على أحد، كما لا يمكنه حتى لوم نفسه، لقد حدث كل شيء لأنه كان ينبغي له أن يحدث، كان روحاً سوداء تلك التي سكنتُ آدم، لا يمكنه الآن تغريبها أو تحميلها كل ما جرى، كما لا يمكنه القطيعة معها على نحو تام.
إنها أول روح أمسكتُ بقرنيْ الثور ثم أخضعت بقية القطيع على نحوٍ مذهل، هكذا بدا له الأمر في وقته؛ أما الآن فإنه لن يستطيع أن ينسى، ولن يستطيع أن يسامح، لكنه سيحاول أن يتفهم، إنه مثلهم، ولد وحول سُرّته البارزة وحمة سوداء عظيمة، تحيط بها إحاطة الخاتم بالإصبع، لكن أحداً منهم لم يرها، وهو وحده من جعل لوجودها مغزىً وتفسيراً، ثم راح يتصرف وفقاً لما أدركه.
كانت كيمياء معقدة تتفاعل وفق منطقها الخاص، اختارت أن ترشحه لذلك الدور الغريب، اختارت أن تضعه في الواجهة وتتوارى خلف صورته الهادئة، كانت روح الطفل تعجزه عن إدراك أشياء كثيرة تحدث أمامه وخلفه، تبدو كما لو أنها تحدث في عالم آخر، لكن ما يخصه منها ظلّ في متناول وعيه تماماً.
لن يصدق أحدٌ أن آدم كان يعرف عن نفسه أشياء كثيرة حتى قبل أن يولد بوقت طويل، إنه اختار أشياء كثيرة، منها لحظة ميلاده والحيز الذي يود أن يشغله في التاريخ، إختار أبويه أيضاً، وشارك على نحوٍ ما في تشكيل مصيره ومصيرهما، لكن هل سارت الأمور كما اشتهى أو أراد؟.
