يؤسّس الكاتب أزهر جرجيس شعريّة خطاب نصّه الحكائي على الفكاهة والتهكّم اللذين يميّزان أسلوبه ويمنحانه حضوراً خاصاً وسط مشهدنا الأدبي العراقي الراهن.
السخرية والتهكّم ليسا مقصودين لذاتيهما في نصوص أزهر جرجيس حيث أنّ توظيفهما مرتبط بسياق إنتاج الفكرة وزمن صياغة العبارة التي تخضع، هنا، إلى إستراتيجيات جمالية منضبطة تبتعد بها عن الإسفاف والحشو غير النافع.
لا تستثني سخرية المؤلف ميداناً يمكن أن تصل إليه، فهي تطال السياسة وتقترب من الدين وتلامس التقاليد من غير أن تدّعي الفلسفة ولا أن تتصنع الحكمة، ذلك أن أزهر جرجيس لا يريد لنصّه، أو هكذا هو ظني، أن يعيد إنتاج شوبنهاور ولا أن يكرر نسخَ بيرغسون.
كتابات جرجيس بسيطة، واضحة، ليست متعددة الأبعاد ولعل هذا ما سيضمن لها فرادتها في وسط ثقافي يتغذى على التراجيديا وسياق تأريخي بحسب الموت فعلاً "جاداً" ويسخر من الضحك بحجة كونه موقفاً لا يناسب المرحلة.
نصوص هذه المجموعة "فوق بلاد السواد" ذات نكهة خاصة سنفرض وجودها يوماً وتغيِّر الوجه الكالح الذي طالما وسم أدبنا العراقي منذ الولادة إلى اليوم.
