لماذا تجديد الخطاب الدينى ؟ لا ريب أن " تجديد الخطاب الدينى " حلقة مفصلة فى تجديد الفكر العربى الاسلامى منذ خمسة عشر قرنا حتى لحظتنا الراهنة وعلى ذلك فان الصراع بين تيار التجديد وتيار التجميد هو صراع متواصل عبر هذه القرون ينتصر التجديديون تارة وينتصر التجميديون تارات عديدة . ومن هنا ظلت الحاجة الى تجديد الفكر الدينى حاجة ملحة تفرض نفسها فى كل مرحلة يصاب فيها المجتمع العربى الاسلامى بانكسار أو نكسة أو محنة وقد أدرك رواد الفكر العربى الحديث منذ ما يقرب من قرنين أن تجيد الفكر الدينى هو مهمة أولية من مهام النهضة العربية الحديثة والمعاصرة فبذلوا فى ذلك الجهود الكبيرة وقدموا المشاريع الفكرية الملحوظة . اما لماذا لم تؤت هذه الجهود وتلك المشاريع ثمارها الموجودة كاملة ؟ فهذا سؤال من اسئلة هذا الكتاب الشائك فى هذا الوقت الحرج .
