وُلد بدري كامل قدح في دمشق، عام، وأتمَّ دراسته الثانوية، في المدارس العسكرية، في تركيا، حيث إن والده كان ضابطاً في الجيش العثماني. وعند تخرُّجه في المدرسة الحربية عام، عيِّن ضابطاً في جيش الاحتلال الفرنسي، وكان من جملة خرِّيجي دورته حسني الزعيم، وفوزي سلو، وفؤاد شهاب، الذين لعبوا أدواراً بارزة، في حياة سورية ولبنان السياسية، فيما بعد. واستقال من منصبه، بعد فترة قصيرة، وسافر إلى فرنسا عام، لدراسة الهندسة المعمارية، وعاد لسورية في عام، ليعمل في تنظيم المدن، لدى أمانة العاصمة، في دمشق. ثم هاجر إلى العراق، وشارك في إيجاد الفن المعماري المعاصر، وترك تراثاً كبيراً، ما تزال آثاره موجودة، لغاية العصر الحاضر. وفي عام ، شارك في الثورة التي قادها رشيد عالي الكيلاني، ضد التدخُّل الإنكليزي في البلاد، والتحق بالقوات الخاصة، بقيادة فوزي القاوقجي.
ويروي المؤلف في هذا الكتاب - بصراحة تامة – كيف لمس أعمال الخيانة، التي تُحاك ضد العراق والعروبة كافة، ممَّا أدَّى إلى مجابهة علنية بينه وبين فوزي القاوقجي، وجنَّد فيها الأخير جمعاً من مؤيِّديه. وتبع تلك المجابهة مجابهة أخرى للخيانة على أرض المعركة، ممَّا أدى إلى لجوء الوالد إلى مفتي فلسطين الأكبر - حينذاك - الحاج أمين الحسيني؛ حيث اكتشف ما اكتشف!! لجأ - بعد فشل الثورة - إلى إيران، ومن ثم؛ إلى ألمانيا، حيث قضى سنوات الحرب العالمية الثانية. وبنهاية الحرب، تم القبض عليه، وإلقاؤه في المعتقلات، مع مجرمي الحرب الألمان، ثم قضت محكمة عسكرية إنكليزية بالحكم عليه بالمدة التي حُجز فيها، وجرَّدته من حقوقه المدنية مدى الحياة. وبتنفيذ الحكم حيثما تواجد النفوذ الإنكليزي. وعاد لسورية في عام، ليعاني من آثار تطبيق الحكم الجائر ضدَّه.
