لا يعتلي كتاب "علي بيضون" هذا، منصة الإعلام، ليزاحم المحتشدين عليها طلباً لصورة، وينأى بكتابه عن جمهرة المتحلقين حول "الأسلاب السياسية"، تاركاً لهم سرديات السيرة، التي صاروا لسانها، ولم يكونوا وجدانها، لكن التمسك بحق الشهادة الراسخة في التاريخ، حق راسخ لصاحبها، الذي كتب بدهشة عينيه وخفقان قلبه مبادرة يديه.
هذا الحق الشخصي، هو في الوقت عينه، حقوق الوطن وناسه، كل ناسه، الذين سطروا الملحمة الثمانينية، فكانت معركة العاصمة بيروت، موجزاً مكثفاً لدفاتر الطلاب، ولحقول المزارعين، ولمصانع العمال... وللبنادق الناهضة طلباً لعروبة العروبة، وحبّاً بلبنان وفلسطين.
لقد شاهد "علي بيضون"، فنقل، عاين فما نطق عن الهوى، كان منحازاً وما زال، إلى الوطن الذي رآه قريباً من الملامسة، كان معادياً وما زال، لإسرائيل ذلك النصل المسموم، وكان مصمماً على كسر هذا النصل، الذي فلّت المقاومة الوطنية اللبنانية حدّه القاطع.
عن الصمود، الذي ميّز بيروت، كانت يوميات ووقائع، هذا للقول، أن التصدي الذي بلغ شهوراً ثلاثة، كانت له مقوماته وإستعداداته، وكان له رجاله وتنظيمه وسلوكياته.
على قاعدة الصمود هذا، أمكن رفع البنيان المقاوم، ولولا الرواية "البيروتية" الطويلة، ما كان ممكناً تسطير كل القصص القصيرة، اللاحقة.
