عبر صفحات الكتاب تكتب عائشة سلطان عن المدن كما يفعل الفنان في الرسم، والنحت، أداة التعبير هي اللغة، وليست الألوان، أو الرخام، أو المرمر، لذا نجحت في التعبير عن الحركة في الأشياء الثابتة من خلال تجسيد مكامن الجمال فيها، إلى درجة يندمج فيها القارىء بالعالم الذي تصوره الكاتبة، فيقرأه في غير قليل من التفاعل والشوق.
تقول الكاتبة "هنا، في هذه الصفحات التي تحكي عن بعض الأسفار والمدن، وعن بعض الهوامش البسيطة التي استعنت بالتقنية قليلاً جداً من أجل التوضيح وتعميق المعنى، كما جاءت بعض الهوامش تعبيراً عاطفياً بحثاً عن ما وراء الحكاية أو خلفية تاريخية توثيقية للرحلة، فليس كل سفر شبيه ببعضه فنحن نسافر للمتعة، وللفرجة، وللتغيير، وللهروب، بحثاً عن هدوء أو رغبة في الوحدة أو الضجيج أحياناً ..! هنا تجدون كل ذلك".
"هوامش في المدن والسفر والرحيل" تضم حكايات أسفار ورحلات بين مدة كثيرة قطعتها الكاتبة خلال أكثر من عشرين عاماً، فيها مغامرات وشقاوات، وفيها ضحكات وذكريات وأحلام عبرت، وها هي تعود إلى الورق.
