تعتبر سيرة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عموماً, وحياته الجهادية ومواقفه البطولية بوجه خاص, معيناً لا ينضب, يستفيد منها المسلمون, ويجدون فيها الإيمان والفضيلة, والمعرفة والحكمة, والإرادة الصلبة التي لا تلين, مما يزكي الهمم, ويرتقي بالمسلم الى مراتب العزة والكرامة في مجالات الحياة المختلفة. وإن لغزوة بدر وقعاً خاصاً في التاريخ العسكري, إذ هي المنطلق الأول والمنعطف المهم الذي ميز بين مرحلتين من مراحل تاريخ الدعوة الإسلامية مرحلة الصبر والتحمل, ومرحلة الدفاع عن الدين الحنيف. وغزوة بدر الكبرى كانت أول معركة كبيرة يقودها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم, كبيرة بالأعداد التي شاركت بها نسبياً حتى تاريخ حدوثها, وكبيرة في أساليب التحضير والاستعداد, والقيادة الحكيمة التي طبقها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كبيرة بنتائجها التي جعلت الجزيرة العربية تنظر نظرة إعجاب ورهبة من قوة المسلمين وهيبتهم, وتنقص بنفس الوقت من هيبة قريش وجبروتها, وصدق الله تعالى إذ سمى يوم بدر يوم الفرقان يوم التقى الجمعان.
