إن أهمية الشركات التجارية التي تعتبر الشركة اللبنة الأساسية في الإقتصاد لأي دولة، فلا يتصور أن يخلو أي نظام إقتصادي في العالم من الشركات، فالشركات سمة طبيعية لا بل وأساسية في العمل التجاري، وهذا ما نجده عندما تنص التشريعات التجارية على أي الأعمال التجارية يقوم بها التاجر الفرد والشركة.
فالشركة التجارية لها القدرة على توحيد الأموال والأشخاص لإستغلال المشروعات الإقتصادية وتضفي على هذه المشروعات الإستقرار والإزدهار لما تتمتع به الشركة من شخصية معنوية مستقلة عن أشخاص مؤسسيها والشركاء فيها، فخروج أحد الشركاء أو الحجر عليه أو إشهار إفلاسه لا يؤثر على قيام الشركة أو إستمرارها.
كما تلعب الشركات دوراً مهماً في الأسواق المالية (البورصة)، حيث تعتبر أسواق المال الساحة التي تعكس مدى فاعلية ونشاط الشركات المدرجة فيها وتعطي مؤشراً على سلامتها وبالتالي يعتبر أداء الشركاء التجارية مرآة تعكس فاعلية إقتصاد أي دولة.
وعليه، فإن الشركات التجارية لم تعد تلعب دوراً على الصعيد المحلي بل تعدى ذلك إلى بروز دورها الواضح في إقتصاديات الدول وتأثيرها بها، فأصبحت تظهر الشركات العابرة للحدود أو متعددة الجنسيات.
