في عملها هذا تحيط الأستاذة "سميرة الزايد" بكافة أحداث السيرة النبوية، وتسجلها في كتاب جامع يطل القارئ من خلاله على حياة رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) عامة بكل جوانبها ومراحلها وسائر ما فيها وما يتصل بها من وقاءع وأحداث.
وفي هذه السيرة اتجهت المؤلفة إلى المقارنة بين الروايات المختلفة للحادثة الواحدة، وإلى تذليل أحداث السيرة بشروح وتعليقات، وتتضمن كشف الغوامض منها، والإجابة عن مشكلات علمية قد تعترض سبيل فهمها، وإبراز أحكام تستنتج منها، فجاء هذا العمل بمثابة معجم يصلح لأن تبنى عليه دراسات هامة في السيرة تغني الباحثين عن العودة إلى المصادر الكثيرة التي يحتاجون إليها في عملهم. وقد إعتمدت فيه المؤلفة على كتب السيرة وكتب الحديث وشروحها والتاريخ والرجال وغيرها من أسانيد.
يتألف كتاب (الجامع في السيرة النبوية) من ستة مجلدات:
المجلد الأول: الحياة المكية "من الولادة حتى الهجرة إلى المدينة"
.المجلد الثاني: الحياة المدنية "من السنة الأولى حتى الخامسة للهجرة"
.المجلد الثالث: من السنة السادسة حتى السنة الثامنة للهجرة.
المجلد الرابع: من السنة التاسعة للهجرة حتى الوفاة.
المجلد الخامس: شمائل النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) وخصائصه.
المجلد السادس: دليل الجامع في السيرة النبوية وفيه: "لوحات الأنساب ومصورات الوقائع والأحداث" و "فهارس الكتاب العامة (فهرس الأعلام وفهرس القبائل والبطون وفهرس الموضوعات).
