في القصيدة المعنونة "كيمياء الكراسي" يقول الشاعر:
لنا وطنٌ .. / وليس لنا هدية / وثوارٌ .. / وليس لهم قضية / وأسماءٌ .. / وليس لها وجوهٌ / تبررها المرايا الآدمية / وأحزابٌ .. / لها وجهٌ حليقٌ / وأحزابٌ .. / لحاها جاهلية / ونواةٌ / يمينيون يوماً / يساريون يوماً / أوسطيّه / تغننُ شهوة الحكام / تزهو .. / بحكمة ببغاءٍ عبقرية / إذا مُسّوا بكيمياء الكراسي / رأوا في الشعب / أقزاماً غبية".
عبر هذه الرؤية الشعرية يجتهد الشاعر شهاب الدين لإقامة صلة حقيقية وواقعية مع المتلقي للإقامة في المنطقة الساخنة للقول الشعري؛ وهو بلا شك اشتغال ذكي يرفد النص ومعاني الشاعر بمستويات عاطفية ووجدانية وإنسانية، ، هي أكثر تعبيراً عن حالة قائمة في الحياة اليوم.
يضم الكتاب قصائد في الشعر العربي الحديث قسّمها الشاعر إلى خمسة مجموعات جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: 1- ببغاءُ تثرثرُ دماً، 2- ما أكثري وحدي ..، 3- أحدق في صوت الكمان، 4- رسائل شتى، 5- شرفةٌ في مقام الخليل.
