في كتابه هذا، يقدم العلامة الحقوقي محمد زيد الأبياني بك شرحاً مختصراً لكتاب "الأحكام الشرعية في الأحوال الشخصية" للفقيه محمد قدري باشا وهو كتاب جمع فيه مؤلفه من فقه أبي حنيفة ما يختص بذات الإنسان من الأحكام في مواد سهلة الفهم قريبة التناول على من له سابقة عهد بمزاولة متعلقات الأحكام الشرعية وخاصة ما يتعلق منها بالأسرة. من هنا جاء هذا المختصر لشرح مسائل الكتاب الآنف الذكر، مبيّناً حكم كل مسألة وحكمة الحكم فيها، ودليل كل مجتهد فيها، وهو شرح نافع لكل طالب ولا يأنف عن مراجعته من هو في الحقيقة راغب، ولم ينتهج فيه المحقق طريقة قدماء الشرّاح من ارتباطهم بعبارة الأصل، بل بيّن مسائل كل باب على مقتضى ترتيبها الطبيعي ذاكراً كل مسألة مستقلة بنفسها غير مرتبطة بلفظ من ألفاظ المادة الصلية، وقد ذيّل كل موضوع بنفس المادة التي تم شرحها إيذاناً بارتباط الشرح بها ولتكون بمثابة تلخيص لما نُبسِّطه من القول، تحققاً للإفادة.
يبدأ الكتاب بمدخل عن تاريخ "الأحوال الشخصية" وتطورها وترجمة للمصنف محمد زيد بك الإبياني، يتبع ذلك جزءين يتحدث الجزء الأول: في الأحكام المختصة بذات الإنسان وهي: الكتاب الأول: في النكاح، والكتاب الثاني: فيما يجب لكل من الزوجين على صاحبه، والكتاب الثالث: في فرق النكاح ، الطلاق، ثم الكتاب الرابع: في الأولاد: ثبوت النسب، وأحكام اللقيط وغيرها، يليه الكتاب الخامس: في الوصي والحجر والهبة والوصية.
أما الجزء الثاني فجاء في: المواريث وفيه أبواب ومنها: في الموانع من الإرث، وفي بيان أحوال نصيب ذوي الفروض المتقدمة مع غيرهم من الورثة، وفي الإرث بالتعصيب – أي القوة -، وأبواب أخرى فيها مسائل متنوعة مثل: توريث الحمل، توريث المفقود، توريث الخنثي، وتوريث ولد الزنا وولد اللعان، وذوى الأرحام وكيفية توريثهم...
