في مجموعتها القصصية "شغف وفستق" تكتب وفاء الدهش عن اللحظات الهاربة من حياة الإنسان، فيتعدد حضور الشخصيات، كما تتعدد المواضيع، وهي رؤية مستمدة من المجتمع الذي لا يضم فرداً واحداً، وإنما عدة أفراد يتفاوتون في وعيهم لمشكلات حياتهم، وطريقتهم في الحل، فمنهم من يختار الهروب إلى الخيال والحلم كما في قصة "ثقب"، حيث يدور الحديث عن امرأة تتخيل حياة لم تعشها في الواقع، كونها عمياء، فعاشتها في الحلم "تقفل صندوقها بعد أن تتفقد كلّ محتوياته...
وبعد أن تعطر جوانبه بالعطور الزيتية المعتقة لتحافظ على عبق ذكرياته، ولتجد طريقها إليه حين تشتهي أن تعيش نشوة سيدة لم تبصر يوماً، ولم تعرف الألوان يوماً، لم يكن لها حبيب ولا أولاد... ولا صندوق خشبي، ولا صور...".
أما في قصة "شرخ" فتسلط الكاتبة الضوء على هموم الحياة اليومية والمعيشية وأثرها على العلاقة الزوجية "تنكمش على نفسها محتضنة بؤسها وعجزها وقائمة الشهر التي تشبه كل شهور السنوات الفائتة والقادمة، تتململ كثيراً، ثم تغفو مثل كل الليالي التالية، بمزاج عكر، وشعور متزايد بالبؤس، وشرخ يتمركز أكثر في فراشهما، ويمتد إلى غرفة المعيشة والمطبخ وفي السيارة، فيتسع بينهما فراغ لم يملكا وقتاً للبحث عن أسبابه".
وبهذا المعنى تنطلق الكاتبة من نزعة واقعية موضوعية للمجتمع والفرد، فتكون بذلك وارثة أمينة لكتَّاب القصص الواقعية الذين يحرصون في أعمالهم على تقديم رؤية إجتماعية وتحليلاً للواقع المعاش، ووصفاً حسياً للأشخاص والسلوكيات والأخلاق.
يضم الكتاب قصصاً قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "إحتضار"، "ثقب"، "رقية"، "شرخ"، "فستبشر"، "نقوش الحنّاء"، "عزف منفرد"، "شغف يشبهه"، "أولويات"... وعناوين أخرى.
