في الشروق والتاريخ اللئيم يخدع الإدراك حاجباً كل الألوان ما عدا الأبيض والأسود، لكن الشمس المنضبطة - الرسول اليومي للإله الواحد - تشرق حتى في الماضي بفطرتها الزاهية وألوانها المحللة اللانهائية، غامرة الحصى بالطاقة والدفء، حاضرة الأثر رغم أنها في المكان القصي، الجو صاف والذاكرة ضباب ووحل، رصد التاريخ كالكتابة على الورق القذر، والشعور بالإضطهاد يفزع العينين في أهنأ لحظات النوم.
فتحت عينيها مرة واحدة، لا أثر للنعاس ولا لغشاوة الاستيقاظ المبكر، الغرفة مظلمة، بالكاد يلمع في عينيها الضوء المتسلل من شقوق الشباك المقابل، نهضت قاصدة الشباك، لا سبيل إلى فتحه، فأقل من سبع سنوات لا يرتقي بجسد طفلة هزيلة طولا أطول من المتر، ولو رآها الأب الشيخ زجرها وشتمها في غلظة ترهبها، وزد على ذلك ترديد الأم الدائم - لا تقربوا نافذة مفتوحة أو مغلقة، لإن رآك الشيخ لقذفك منها ثم قذفني.
