يضمّ الكتاب النصوص العربية ثلاثة مصنفات للحكيم الترمذي. الأول منها هو كتاب سيرة الأولياء. وفيه يذكر ما خاضت فيه طائفة من الناس في شأن الولاية، مبيناً شأن الأولياء ومنازلهم، وما يلزم من قبولهم، وهل يعرف الولي نفسه أم لا. منبهاً إلى خطأ الذين يخوضون في الكلام عن الولي ويقولون بأن الولاية مجهولة عند أهلها، ومن حسب نفسه ولياً فهو بعيد عنها، فهؤلاء إنما هم قوم يعتبرون شأن الولاية في طريق العلم ويتكلمون بالمقاييس والظنون وبالتوهم من تلقاء أنفسهم، وليسوا بأهل حظوظ من ربهم، ولم يبلغوا منازل الولاية ولا عرفوا صنع الله بهم، إنما كلامهم في الصدق معيارهم في الأمور الصدق، فإذا صاروا إلى المنازل انقطع كلامهم عجزاً عن معرفة صنع الله بالعبد، لأنهم عجزوا عن معرفته، فمن عجز عن معرفة الله كان عن معرفة صنائعه أعجز، فلذلك صار كلامهم كلام جزافة في العاقبة. والولي عنده على صنفين: صنف أولياء حق وصنف منهم أولياء الله وكلاهما ينسبان إلى أنهم أولياء الله. وهكذا يمضي الحكيم الترمذي في بيان صفات كلا الصنفين وبيان أحوالهم وصفحاتهم ومقاماتهم و... في كتابه سيرة الأولياء مصححاً المعتقدات الخاطئة حول التصوف وأحواله وأوليائه مستشهداً فيما يذهب إليه بما شاء له من الآيات والأحاديث والأثر وسير الصحابة. أما كتابه الثاني فيجيب فيه الحكيم الترمذي عن المسائل التي سأله أهل سرخس عنها وهي تدور حول شأن المريد وما الذي ينفعه ويضرّه في سيره إلى الله تعالى وكيف ينبغي أن يكون مبتدأ أمره.
وفي كتابه الرابع يجيب الترمذي على كتاب من الريّ، والذي تخلله أسئلة ومسائل وإن اختلفت أنماطها إلى أنها جميعها تدور حول أمراض النفس وآفاتها وطريق الخلاص منها، بمعنى آخر لم يخرج الحكيم الترمذي في هذا الكتاب عن جوهر الموضوع الأساسي الذي بحثه في كتابيه السابقين والذي هو حول السبيل إلى الارتقاء الروحي في معالج السالكين.
