بدأت هذه القصة في كانون الثاني / يناير / عام 1918 في استامبول، عاصمة الأمبرطورية العثمانية، التي جعلت العالم المسيحي يرتجف هلعاً، خلال عدة قرون.
ولقد تغلبت الدول الغربية على هذه القوة وغدت تتنازع على حطام هذه الامبراطورية المكتهلة، وكانت تسمى منذ زمن طويل باسم "رجل أوروبا المريض".
ولقد تعاقب على العرش في هذه السلطنة ثلاثة أخوة خلال اثنين وأربعين عاماً، وهم السلطان مراد الذي خلع، وحجزت حريته بأمر من أخيه السلطان عبد الحميد، الذي أطيح به، هو نفسه، على يد من سُمّوا بجمعية "تركيا الفتاة"، وأحل محله السلطان رشاد.
واليوم، لم يعد السلطان رشاد إلا ملكاً دستورياً، أما السلطة الحقيقية، فهي في يد الثلاثي، الذي جرَّ البلاد إلى الحرب إلى جانب ألمانيا.
