ولدت كينيزي مراد مؤلفة هذه الرواية في مراد في باريس. وإلى جانب دراساتها لعلم النفس وعلم الاجتماع في السوربون فقد قضت اقامات طويلة في الهند وباكستان. وفي عام 1965 بدأت عملها كصحافية حرة حتى العام 1970 الذي التحقت فيه بمجلة "نوفيل أو بسرفاتور" فقضت فيها اثنتي عشرة سنة كاختصاصية في شؤون الشرق الأوسط وشبه القارة الهندية. وقد غطت خاصة أخبار الثورات الإيرانية والأثيوبية كما خطت أخبار الحرب اللبنانية. وفي العام 1983 تركت الصحافة وكرست نفسها للكتابة. وبعد أن بحثت في تركيا ولبنان والهند لتغطية احتياجات روايتها نشرت "من طرف الأميرة الميتة" عام 1988 وهي تروي قصة عائلتها. إن "حديقة بادالبور" هي المصراع الثاني من حكايتها الطويلة.
هذا الكتاب سيرة حياة زهر "كينيزي مراد" الابنة "البيولوجية" لراجا بادالبور المسلم، وسليلة الثقافة الأوروبية تربية، التي تبحث عن أصولها في الهند العلمانية مظهراً والعنصرية جوهراً.
زهر التي شهدت في شبابها ستينيات فرنسا، حيث فرويد وسارتر يحكمان الفكر، بحثت طوال حياتها عن حبل سري يربطها بمكان ما على سطح الأرض، يعطيها نقطة ارتكاز في شتاتها الثقافي بين الشرق والغرب، فكانت "حديقة بادالبور" التي أورثها إياها والدها الراجا المسلم.
وخلال صراعها المرير للحصول على ميراثها الرمزي تكشفت لها حقائق جوهرية مصيرية.
"حديقة بادالبور" رواية مكتوبة بنسغ الروح والوجدان. نالت الكثير من التقدير والجوائز، وحققت مبيعات خيالية بعد صدورها في العام 1998.
