صدرت فتوى في دمشق، أيام سلاطين بني عثمان، تدين الدروز، وغيرهم بالكفر والإلحاد، وتطالب ولاة الأمور باستئصال شأفتهم من هذه البلاد. وكتب محمد كرد علي: "وكان الشعب في معظم الأرجاء، يستخف بعامة الدروز إذا اختلفوا إلى الحواضر، وإذا ذكروا يذكرونهم بالسخرية والمهانة، فيشق ذلك على جماعتهم، خصوصاً والدروز لم يفقدوا أصولهم العربية.. وكان لبعض المشايخ المتعصبين في الحواضر، في إلقاء هذه الكراهة وهذه النفرة بين الدروز، وبين الأكثرية التي انشقوا منها من أهل السنة." حام حول الدروز أقلام شتى، بعضها لا يعرف عنهم إلا ما تعرفه النملة من علم الفلك. وبعضها تعمد الدس والخداع والتشويه، وامتهن مسخ الحقائق، فزعم أن الدروز عباد عجول، وملاحدة، وزنادقة، وإباحيون. ما قيل في حق الدروز، مدحاً أم قدحاً، هو غيض من فيض، في حق هذه الطائفة، فما هي حقيقة الأمر؟
