بدأت في هذا الكتاب بشرح مختصر للظروف التاريخية والحضارية التي دعت إلى إيجاد علم العروض، ثم كيفية وضع لبناته الصغرى ثم الأكبر فالأكبر، حتى الدوائر مرورًا بالتفاعيل والاوزان وقد كان القارئ العادي في ذهني دائمًا فكنت أفسر وأوضح بالأمثلة الحياتية كلما دعت الحاجة وكنت أيسر بقدر المستطاع وأوضح ما يكن الاستغناء عنه.
وكمثال لمنهجي في التيسير فإني لم أبدأ بما يسمى "قواعد الكتابة العروضية" بل جعلت القارئ يستنتجها، وكذلك عرضي المبسط لقضية الزحافات والعلل- وهي أم الماخذ والمشاكل في هذا العلم- فقد وضعت جدولا صغيرا سهل التداول، يمكن هذا الجدول من الإلمام بجميع الزحافات، ولا ينسى حتى بعد ترك الدراسة مع توضيح رأيي في مسميات الزخافات والعلل في التفاعيل والاوزان وغير ذلك كثيرًا في ثنايا الكتاب.
