يتحدث الكتاب عن فتنة البسفور، وانتحار السلطان عبد العزيز، وحياته الباذخة وقصره الذي يضم (900) امرأة وحكم الجواسيس، والجنة على الأرض، وعن المرأة التركية، والإنكليز في إستانبول، ويخصص فصولاً عن سليمان الأول، ومحمد الثاني، ومحمود الثاني، وعبد العزيز، ومدحت باشا، ومراد الخامس، ومحمد السادس، ومصطفى كمال، ويتحدث طويلاً عن الإنقلابات العلمية والتجارية والصناعية والإجتماعية.
الجدير بالذكر أن معلومات هذا الكتاب جاءت قبل نهاية حكم السلطان عبد العزيز بخمس سنوات. وهو نتيجة تجربة شخصية للكاتبة حيث عاشت في إستنانبول وكتبت عنها، وذلك في نهايات القرن التاسع عشر عام 1871م. تتوزع محتويات الكتاب في عشرة فصول تتحدث الفصول الخمسة الأولى عن سلاطين بني عثمان، أما الخمسة فصول الأخرى فتناولت مراحل مختلفة من تاريخ تركيا منذ إعلان روسيا الحرب على الباب العالي، ودخول تركيا الحرب، ثم النفوذ الألماني في تركيا، وصولاً إلى الإحتلال البريطاني وختاماً إضاءة على حياة المرأة التركية ونهاية الرحلة...
