في هذا الكتاب يشرح آية الله الحاج السيد محمد الطهراني، واحدة من أهم رسالات العرفان المنسوبة لبحر العلوم/ السيد مهدي بن السيد مرتضى الطباطبائي النجفي الموسومة بـ "رسالة السير والسلوك" وفيها يورد حال بحر العلوم وصحَة انتساب هذه الرسالة له، ثم بيان حقيقة ومقصد السلوك إلى الله سبحانه بشكل إجمالي وتفصيلي، وكيفية السلوك إلى الله وآثاره، وطريقة ذكر العلامة بحر العلوم، وذلك بشرح مفصَل احتوى على: التصور العام لحقيقة وهدف السلوك إلى الله وبيان منازل عالم الخاوص والعوالم التي تسبقه، وعملية تكليف السالك وتحصينه بالعلم اللازم والإلتزام بالأدب تجاه الباري تعالى ورسوله وخلفائه وغيرها من سلوكات مثل التضرع والذلة والمسكنة والتواضع في فناء الرب، والإحتراز عن المشتهيات بقدر الإستطاعة، وذكر الله ومناجاته، والتفكر به، والمداومة على جميع الأذكار والأوراد المذكورة عن بحر العلوم والتي يشتمل عليها هذا الكتاب، كل ذلك في سبيل حصول الأنوار في القلب والتي يتم بها السلوك إلى الله تعالى وهي غاية المؤمن، وطريقه إلى معرفة الحق سبحانه وتعالى.
